Torras received the most public votes in a contest to choose the designer.
Graphic designer Patricia Torras made news recently when she won the Legacy Through Art Initiative, a competition for a design that would inspire a new logo to celebrate and revitalize the visual identity of Old School Square, Delray Beach’s iconic cultural arts campus. The initiative was launched in March by the Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority and the city of Delray Beach.
“I live just down the street,” she said, when asked why she decided to participate. “I took out my watercolor brush and my sketchbook, and I kind of just started. I traced over the memorable architectural details of the buildings — a window or arch that are easy to identify — I sketched it out in my book and then digitalized it.”
What she came up with was a quadrant of squares in the color palette specified by the city and DDA, each with an easily recognizable architectural detail of Old School Square venues: the Amphitheater pavilion, Cornell Museum, fieldhouse, and the Crest Theatre and Creative Art School.
A panel of art and design professionals narrowed the entries to three finalists, and after a three-week public voting period, Torras, 32, emerged as the community favorite.
Now, she is fine-tuning her “inspirational” designs into five actual logos: an Old School Square main logo along with four individual venue logos.
What will they look like? They will be revealed early fall as part of Old School Square’s Centennial Celebration. But she gives a hint. Sort of.
“They are going to be in watercolor — that’s the medium Old School Square chose. They will be vibrant, colorful and very Delray.”

Following a three-week community voting period, Delray Beach artist Patricia Torras has been selected as the winner of the “Legacy Through Art” initiative to redesign Old School Square’s logo.
The “Legacy Through Art” initiative was launched by the City of Delray Beach in partnership with the Downtown Development Authority to reflect Old School Square’s “commitment to community, creativity, and cultural preservation.” Last month, Torras, along with two other local artists, emerged as finalists from a field of more than 30 other artists to create a new logo for the local arts campus. The Delray Beach community then cast their votes, of which Torras won by a comfortable margin of about 600, pulling more than 4,000 votes.
As winner of the competition, Torras receives a $5,000 design commission, a spotlight gallery at the Cornell Museum, recognition in all Old School Square branding and media campaigns, and special honors at the official unveiling event.
“I’ve lived and breathed Delray Beach for most of my life,” said Torras in a press release. “As a South Florida native, I’ve always drawn inspiration from the city’s color, architecture, and community energy. To create something so personal and lasting for a place I love—that’s incredibly meaningful.”

A panel of art and design professionals narrowed the entries to three finalists—Jen Fisher, Kristin Pavlick, and Patricia Torras—whose work best captured Old School Square’s visual spirit.
During a three-week public voting period, Torras emerged as the community favorite, followed by Fisher (3,409 votes) and Pavlick (3,260 votes).

Torras’ logo concept features a colorful design, created in watercolor, and aims to capture the creative pulse and historic significance of the Old School Square campus.
She added: “Old School Square has been part of my life for nearly 25 years. Whether walking along the Avenue or attending community events, this place has always felt like home. My design is a love letter to that experience—an expression of its legacy and its future.”
